Israel's brutal attack on Gaza has not just left 1,330 dead bodies, including those of 437 children, but also a Turkey that is very bitter against the Jewish state. Turkish society deeply felt and shared the suffering of the Palestinians in the Strip and rallied against the bombs that hit them.
The last time I saw such a tense public sentiment was the early 1990s, when Bosnians were subjected to "ethnic cleansing" by Serbian nationalists. The situation in Gaza was more complex, to be sure, but it was perceived in Turkey as something similar to the slaughter of Muslims in the Balkans.
Therefore, it wasn't a surprise to see the Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan say harsh words against Israel. He was just mirroring the public sentiment. And this was more than populism, as some could ascribe to a politician who is on the eve of local elections. Mr. Erdoğan was sincere in his feelings. When he visited a group of wounded Palestinians that were brought to an Ankara hospital, people noticed tears in his eyes.
Anger versus balance
But while strong emotions are worthy of respect, diplomacy more so needs nuance and deliberation. And those are not the highest qualities of Mr. Erdoğan. He is rather known to be a man who minces no words and, as he put himself, who thinks "anger is a rhetorical art." So, as he has done many times before on many other issues, including domestic ones, he sounded unbalanced -- and even pro-Hamas. As Sedat Ergin, the editor-in-chief of daily Milliyet, put it in these pages yesterday, his whole Gaza rhetoric was "problematic."
By looking at that, some commentators are arguing these days that Turkey has become close to the pro-Hamas and anti-Israeli axis, which is represented by Iran and Syria. Consequently, some experts doubtfully ask whether Turkey is still a Western ally at all.
Just like Mr. Erdoğan's rhetoric, these are inflated comments. No, there is no doubt that Turkey is a Western ally. And, no, Turkey is not pro-Hamas. But Turkey is a Western ally who has gained the confidence of Hamas, "the Arab street," Syria, and even Iran. And this is not a bad news at all, if it can be utilized for building peace in the region.
One needs to see this: Turkey has been talking to Hamas, but unlike Iran, it has been telling the radical Islamic group to calm down and integrate into the peace process with Israel. Turkey indeed has become very popular among the Arab masses, but it has gained this by calling for not a "world without Zionism," but a world of peace and justice. Turkey's reaction was not against Israel itself, but what she had done in Gaza.
No wonder Turkey's foreign policy establishment has recently taken steps to correct the misunderstanding that Mr. Erdoğan's harsh words have provoked. First, President Abdullah Gül, whose experience and role in foreign policy is unmistakable, called his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, and then declared "the importance Turkey attributes to the solidarity, unity and integrity of Palestinians under the leadership of Abbas." You can read this as a confirmation of the fact that Turkey is in line on this matter with the international community. Then foreign minister Ali Babacan spoke to journalists and said, "We can't approve what Hamas does; however, it is not possible to maintain peace by ignoring Hamas." He also warned the group had to decide whether it would remain as an armed organization or a political party.
What this means is that Turkey disapproves the terrorist tactics of Hamas and its insistence on not recognizing Israel's right to exist. But it also sees that peace is impossible without Hamas being a part of it and hopes to persuade the group to open the way for, at the very least, a "hudna," a long term truce with Israel.
A note to Senator Mitchell
That's why the new U.S. special envoy to the Middle East, former Senator George J. Mitchell, whose appointment was a very wise decision by President Obama, should also put Turkey on his countries-to-go list. I am sure he will benefit from a meeting with Ahmet Davutoğlu, the top foreign policy adviser to Mr. Erdoğan, and who recently helped persuading Hamas to declare ceasefire when Israel announced its own.
Meanwhile, there is something else that Mr. Mitchell, and the Obama administration, urgently needs to consider: Israel continues to steal Palestinian lands by building or allowing Jewish Settlements in West Bank. This illegal usurpation makes the Palestinians, and others in the region, to think that a two-state solution is impossible because Israel's expansionist ambitions will never end. It should be not just stopped, but also pushed back.
In other words, let the countries of the region, including Turkey, persuade Hamas that a world with Zionism is acceptable. But, on the other hand, America should persuade the Israelis that their Zionism needs to be much less paranoid, aggressive and expansionist. If we don't want this zero-sum game to continue for decades, creating endless bloodshed, we have to force both sides to compromise.

Israel uses deadly weapon in Gaza
Reports of previously unseen injuries in the wounded and dead in Gaza are surfacing. Bodies have arrived severely fragmented, melted and disfigured. Others have had burning internal wounds, yet showed only minute pieces of shrapnel externally. Charred and blackened limbs have required amputation, but suddenly healthy tissue begins dying often leading to the person’s death. It is believed that Israel has used an experimental weapon called DIME that is manufactured in the USA. Aside from the horrific injuries it causes, DIME has been shown to be highly carcinogenic and harmful to the environment and the long-term effects are very much unknown. Still in the testing stage, DIME has not yet been officially declared an illegal weapon, but this is all the more reason why it should not be used experimentally, particularly against civilians.
What is DIME?
Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME) is considered a precise munition intended to limit collateral damage. According to GlobalSecurity.org, “the warhead explosive fill is a dense inert metal explosive containing fine tungsten particles to provide a ballasted payload with sufficient penetration mass.” The US-based website Defense-Tech says, "the result is an incredibly destructive blast in a small area" and "the destructive power of the mixture causes far more damage than pure explosive."
Israel denies using DIME
Israel denies using DIME weapons and claims that it is only using weapons in accordance with international law. However, Israel is not known for telling the truth about the weapons it uses against civilians. In its 1982 war on Lebanon, Israel was shown to be lying when journalists proved that Israel had indeed used phosphorous munitions. Again in Lebanon this year, Israel denied and later admitted having used cluster bombs and white phosphorus explosives – a horrific chemical weapon of mass destruction that causes the wounds to burn when exposed to air. Also, inexplicable radiation levels and uranium-235 have been found in soil samples, but Israel has denied using any radioactive uranium explosives. Israel is widely suspected of having a stockpile of chemical weapons, and using such weapons on civilians - particularly experimental ones like DIME – breaches international law and is morally indefensible.
History of Israel’s Chemical Weapons use
In 1948, Zionist forces injected typhoid in the aqueduct of Acre’s water supply causing a typhoid epidemic and opening the way for a “reign of terror” which ended with the collapse of the Palestinian city. Then in 1968, Israelis began using chemical defoliants on Palestinian crops in various farms over a number of years. Nerve gas used around school children has also been documented. In Khan Younis in 2001, Israel used incapacitants – a convulsing poison gas - but even the televised pictures of victims hysterically thrashing around and vomiting incessantly did not spark an international outcry nor did it lead to an investigation and condemnation of Israel. Israel then continued to use the gas in Gaza and also the
West Bank.
International safeguards/monitoring/testing
A team headed by Professor Manduca from the University of Genova, Italy has investigated testimonies, images and material evidence collected by NGOs and fact-finding missions. Tissue samples from patients in Gaza were analysed and found to be compatible with the hypothesis that DIME weapons were used. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is collecting information on the injuries in Gaza, but has not yet come to any conclusion about the weapons used.
Israel’s obligations
Israel has an obligation under Article 147 of the Geneva Convention, not to “willingly cause great suffering or serious injury to the body or health” of civilians. Certainly, Israel should not be using new experimental weapons where civilians are at risk. Their use terrorises the occupied civilian population and is a form of collective punishment which is forbidden by international law. Israel has signed but not ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention and is not party to the Biological Weapons Convention. It has constantly violated numerous conventions from The Geneva Protocol of 1925 on Poisonous Gas to the 1993 Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons.

I am a Jew. I was a participant in the Rally for the Right of Return to Palestine. It was the right thing to do.
I've heard about the European holocaust against the Jews since I was a small child. I've visited the memorials in Washington, DC and Jerusalem dedicated to Jewish lives lost and I've cried at the recognition to what level of atrocity mankind is capable of sinking. Where are the Jews of conscience? No righteous malice can be held against the survivors of Hitler's holocaust. These fragments of humanity were in no position to make choices beyond that of personal survival. We must not forget that being a survivor or a co-religionist of the victims of the European Holocaust does not grant dispensation from abiding by the rules of humanity.
"Never again" as a motto, rings hollow when it means "never again to us alone." My generation was raised being led to believe that the biblical land was a vast desert inhabited by a handful of impoverished Palestinians living with their camels and eking out a living in the sand. The arrival of the Jews was touted as a tremendous benefit to these desert dwellers. Golda Meir even assured us that there "is no Palestinian problem".
We know now this picture wasn't as it was painted. Palestine was a land filled with people who called it home. There were thriving towns and villages, schools and hospitals. There were Jews, Christians and Muslims.
In fact, prior to the occupation, Jews represented a mere seven per cent of the population and owned three per cent of the land.
Taking the blinders off for a moment, I see a second atrocity perpetuated by the very people who should be exquisitely sensitive to the suffering of others. These people knew what it felt like to be ordered out of your home at gun point and forced to march into the night to unknown destinations or face execution on the spot. The people who displaced the Palestinians knew first hand what it means to watch your home in flames, to surrender everything dear to your heart at a moment's notice. Bulldozers levelled hundreds of villages, along with the remains of the village inhabitants, the old and the young. This was nothing new to the world.
Poland is a vast graveyard of the Jews of Europe. Israel is the final resting place of the massacred Palestinian people. A short distance from the memorial to the Jewish children lost to the holocaust in Europe there is a levelled parking lot. Under this parking lot is what's left of a once flourishing village and the bodies of men, women and children whose only crime was taking up needed space and not leaving graciously. This particular burial marker reads: "Public Parking".
I've talked with Palestinians. I have yet to meet a Palestinian who hasn't lost a member of their family to the Israeli Shoah, nor a Palestinian who cannot name a relative or friend languishing under inhumane conditions in an Israeli prison. Time and time again, Israel is cited for human rights violations to no avail. On a recent trip to Israel, I visited the refugee camps inhabited by a people who have waited 52 years in these 'temporary' camps to go home. Every Palestinian grandparent can tell you the name of their village, their street, and where the olive trees were planted. Their grandchildren may never have been home, but they can tell you where their great-grandfather lies buried and where the village well stood. The press has fostered the portrait of the Palestinian terrorist. But the victims who rose up against human indignity in the Warsaw Ghetto are called heroes. Those who lost their lives are called martyrs. The Palestinian who tosses a rock in desperation is a terrorist.
Two years ago I drove through Palestine and watched intricate sprinkler systems watering lush green lawns of Zionist settlers in their new condominium complexes, surrounded by armed guards and barbed wire in the midst of a Palestinian community where there was not adequate water to drink and the surrounding fields were sandy and dry. University professor Moshe Zimmerman reported in the Jerusalem Post (30 April, 1995), "The [Jewish] children of Hebron are just like Hitler's youth."
We Jews are suing for restitution, lost wages, compensation for homes, land, slave labour and back wages in Europe. Am I a traitor of a Jew for supporting the right of return of the Palestinian refugees to their birthplace and compensation for what was taken that cannot be returned?
The Jewish dead cannot be brought back to life and neither can the Palestinian massacred be resurrected. David Ben Gurion said, "Let us not ignore the truth among ourselves...politically, we are the aggressors and they defend themselves...The country is theirs, because they inhabit it, whereas we want to come here and settle down, and in their view we want to take away from them their country...".
Palestine is a land that has been occupied and emptied of its people. Its cultural and physical landmarks have been obliterated and replaced by tidy Hebrew signs. The history of a people was the first thing eradicated by the occupiers. The history of the indigenous people has been all but eradicated as though they never existed. And all this has been hailed by the world as a miraculous act of God. We must recognise that Israel's existence is not even a question of legality so much as it is an illegal fait accompli realised through the use of force while supported by the Western powers. The UN missions directed at Israel in attempting to correct its violations of have thus far been futile.
In Hertzl's 'The Jewish State' the father of Zionism said: "We must investigate and take possession of the new Jewish country by means of every modern expedient." I guess I agree with Ehud Barak (3 June 1998) when he said, "If I were a Palestinian, I'd also join a terror group." I'd go a step further perhaps. Rather than throwing little stones in desperation, I'd hurtle a boulder.
Hopefully, somewhere deep inside, every Jew of conscience knows that this was no war; that this was not G-d's restitution of the holy land to it's rightful owners. We know that a human atrocity was and continues to be perpetuated against an innocent people who couldn't come up with the arms and money to defend themselves against the western powers bent upon their demise as a people.
We cannot continue to say, "But what were we to do?" Zionism is not synonymous with Judaism. I wholly support the rally of the right of return of the Palestinian people. here.

PKPIM KECAM SERANGAN KE ATAS GAZA
Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Islam Malaysia (PKPIM) mengecam sekeras-kerasnya segala bentuk serangan yang dilakukan oleh tentera Israel terhadap bumi Gaza . Dalam laporan akhbar Berita Harian pada 2 Januari 2009, serangan yang telah masuk hari ke enam itu telah mengorbankan 410 penduduk awam Palestin dan mengakibatkan 1,900 yang lain cedera.
Jumlah angka kematian ini menjelaskan kepada kita bahawa serangan yang dilakukan regim Israel tersebut bertujuan untuk mencari jalan supaya berlakunya pembersihan etnik secara besar-besaran terhadap penduduk Islam Gaza dan wajib ditentang oleh masyarakat dunia.
Dalam pada itu, PKPIM turut mengutuk alasan yang digunakan Israel untuk menghalalkan serangan. Serangan atas alasan untuk membunuh aktivis Hamas adalah suatu yang tidak masuk akal memandangkan serangan tersebut dilakukan secara terang-terangan ke atas kawasan bandar dan perumahan yang diduduki oleh ramai penduduk awam.
Sementara itu, PKPIM turut menggesa seluruh pihak khususnya Majlis Keselamatan PBB dan Persidangan Negara Islam (OIC) untuk melakukan sesuatu untuk mendesak regim zionis menghentikan serangan. Atas dasar kemanusiaan dan persaudaraan Islam, sudah tiba masanya badan dunia seperti PBB dan OIC serta Kesatuan Eropah (EU) bersuara secara lantang dan mengenakan sekatan politik dan ekonomi terhadap Israel.
Serangan Israel ini merupakan bibit permulaan kepada peperangan besar-besaran dan PKPIM tidak menolak kemungkinan siri peperangan yang berlaku antara Arab – Israel yang berlaku sekitar tahun 1973 akan meletus kembali.
Dalam perkembangan berkaitan, PKPIM turut menyelar kedegilan kerajaan Mesir pimpinan Hosni Mubarak untuk membuka sempadan Gaza melalui pintu lintasan Rafah. Keengganan ini sebenarnya telah membantu kepungan wilayah Gaza oleh Israel memandangkan penduduk awam Gaza tidak dapat lari ke sempadan Mesir untuk mencari tempat perlindungan.

Kurniakanlah Kemenangan Kepada Mereka!"
2 hari selepas memperingati Maulud Nabi Isa Alahissalam, Semenanjung Gaza sekali lagi menjadi medan pertumpahan darah penduduk Palestin.
Serangan udara yang dilancarkan oleh pihak Rejim zionis yang telah menelan 200 jiwa penduduk yang tidak berdosa kononnya sebagai satu tindakan serangan balas terhadap pergerakan Hamas diatas serangan roket yang dilancarkan keatas selatan Israel yang lalu.
Ya, alasannya mudah, bagi menghapus pengganas, dalam erti kata mereka adalah pergerakan Hamas. Washington pula seperti biasa, terus berlembut, kadang-kadang menutup mata. Negara Islam yang lain pula membisu, seperti hilang kejantanannya. Majlis Keselamatan PBB pula seperti boneka, menari mengikut rentak dendangan zionis dan sekutu- sekutunya. Tapi benarkah sasaran mereka adalah pergerakan Hamas semata-mata?? Mari kita tinjau apa kata New York Times :
"A military operation against Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza, had been forecast and demanded by Israeli officials for weeks, ever since a rocky cease-fire between Israel and Hamas broke down completely in early November and rocket attacks began in large numbers against Israel. Still, there was a shocking quality to Saturday’s attacks, in broad daylight on about 100 sites, as police cadets were graduating, women were shopping at the outdoor market and children were emerging from school."
“The center of Gaza City instantly became a scene of chaotic horror, with rubble everywhere, sirens wailing, and women shrieking as dozens of mutilated bodies were laid out on the pavement and in the lobby of Shifa Hospital so that family members could identify them. The vast majority of those killed were Hamas police officers and security men, including two senior commanders, but the dead included several construction workers and at least two children in school uniforms.”
Nampaknya Rejim berhati syaitan ini sudah menganggap kanak-kanak Palestin sebagai pengganas? Bagaimana pula dengan anak-anak mereka? Malaikatkah ?
Apakah malang nasib penduduk Gaza? Sudahlah bantuan kemanusiaan disekat kerana penutupan sempadan, kini dibedil pula oleh Jet-jet puak Zionis? Bak kata orang-orang tua kita, Sudah jatuh ditimpa tangga!
Memang dasar pengecut, hanya tahu serang dari udara! Turunlah ke tanah! Kita lihat siapa pejuang sebenar! Allahuakbar!!!
Apa Pula kata pemimpin kita? Adakah sekadar berdiam diri? Atau sekadar mengeluarkan kecaman yang langsung tidak berbisa?
Sudahlah sahabat, tinggalkanlah program realiti Tv yang mengkhayalkan, tinggalkanlah acara rempit hujung minggu yang merosakkan, tinggalkanlah acara berfoya-foya di kelab-kelab malam dan pusat-pusat Karaoke yang menjelekkan! Aku merayu, Bangunlah semua! Sampai bila harus kita pejamkan mata??
Tidak berasa berdosakah kita dikala saudara kita meratap kematian keluarga mereka, kita disini sebok dengan persiapan parti menyambut tahun baru???
Ini soal jiwa! Ini soal Kedaulatan! Ini soal Islam!
Bangkitlah Semua! Hulurkan Bantuan, Hulurkan sokongan! Walau Hanya dengan sepotong Doa!
......Atau mungkin setelah jutaan gelen darah mengalir dibumi Palestin, baharulah kamu mahu membuka mata???
